The RE is a 5-step speed control for use with fans. A single-phase transformer controls the fan speed by altering the supply voltage in five fixed steps. These steps are adjusted manually, using the control knob on the front of the unit. The transformer is equipped with 230v terminals for operating dampers, electric heater batters and other external equipment. When the transformer knob is in the zero position, the outlet has no current. The indicator lamp on the front of the unit indicates when the transformer is in operation. The design allows for the fuse to be reset from the outside. 

For added safety and reduced fire risk, the RE features a self-extinguishing thermoplastic casing. Fans with external contact leads must always be connected to a motor protection device. The RE is practically maintenance-free. If the controller has been accidentally exposed to abnormal levels of liquid, dust or physical damage, its function and safety must be checked before further operation.
